Don RiceDr. Don Rice, President
District 2

Dr. Don A Rice has worked as a Chiropractor since 1983. Dr. Rice and his wife Cheryl own and operate Agape Chiropractic in Palestine.  Dr. Rice graduated from Groveton High School and attended Stephen F. Austin University.  He then attended Texas Chiropractor College in Pasadena, TX where he graduated with Faculty Accommodation in 1982.  Before becoming a doctor, he taught and coached in Cayuga and Hemphill.  Dr. Rice is an active member of the Palestine Lion's Club and currently holds the office of Secretary/Treasurer.  His past positions have been Tournament Chairman, Scholarship Chairman, Program Chairman, and President.  Dr. Rice and his wife, a graduate of Westwood, have three children who have all graduated from Westwood ISD.

Mike KellyMr. Mike Kelly - Member

  Mr. Mike Kelly is a long-time Palestine resident, having graduated from Palestine High School in 1971.  He attend     Henderson County College studying Ranch Management. Mr. Kelly retired from Westwood ISD in 2015 after serving our        district for 15 years.  He has been   married to his wife Bonnie for 43 years, and son Chris is a WHS graduate.  Mr.       Kelly's daughter, Amy Camp, teaches at Westwood Primary.  Mr.Kelly is a member of the Palestine City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Palestine City Charter Review Commission, and the Anderson County Master Gardeners Association.  He is a Certified Texas Master Gardner and has assisted the Primary with their garden for years.

Leonard ArmstrongMr. Leonard Armstrong - Member

  Leonard Armstrong was born and raised in Palestine, Texas and graduated from Westwood ISD in 1971.  He graduated from United Electronics Institute in Dallas in 1973 with a degree as an Electronic Technician.  Mr. Armstrong retired after 35 years with the local phone company specializing in business systems.  He is a member of Sheridan Terrace   Baptist Church, has been active with the Palestine Community Theatre for 38 years, and loves hunting and being in nature.  Leonard Armstrong has been married to 1974 Westwood alumni, Susan Armstrong, for 44 years.  He is a father of three:  Leonard G. Armstrong, Jr., Patrick Armstrong (2000 Westwood alumni), and Daylene Armstrong Collette (2001 Westwood alumni).  Leonard is a grandfather of three: Megan, Brent and Jaxon and one grandbaby on the way!

Ronnie StanhopeMr. Ronnie Stanhope - Member

Mr. Ronnie Stanhope is a 1983 graduate of Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas, where he was active in sports.  He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock after graduation. Ronnie has been employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice since 1994. Ronnie and his wife Edna have three children, Aaron graduated from Westwood High School in 2011, Courtney graduated from Westwood High School in 2014, and Kaylie currently attends Westwood Elementary.  Mr. Ronnie Stanhope was sworn in as a WISD board member on May 12, 2014. 

Craig NivensMr. Craig Nivens - Member

Mr. Craig Nivens is in his first year of serving the district as Board Member, but he is no stranger to education and leadership. Craig's dad, T.C. Nivens, was a teacher and administrator for Westwood ISD for many years and also served on the board of trustees from 1983-1986. Craig is a 1978 Westwood graduate and was very active in sports and FFA; he is currently working on his Bachelors's degree from Tarleton University in Stephenville, Texas.  Mr. Nivens is employed as the Operations Manager with Baker Hughes. Craig and his wife, Sheila, have two children; Samantha graduated from Westwood High School in 2010 and Ryan, who currently attends Westwood High School. 

   Dr. Carolyn J. Booker, Vice President

  Dr. Carolyn J. Booker was appointed and sworn in to serve on the Board on October 9, 2017.  She has served as a member  of the Westwood ISD School Board of Trustees since May 1995 in the capacities of president (12 years), vice-president and secretary.  She is a graduate of the Class of 2008 Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) and has earned the distinction of being a Master Trustee. She has served as a member of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members, TASB Legislative Advocacy Network and appointed by TASB to serve as a representative from Congressional District V in the Federal Relations Network. She works as a Sr. Project Management Analyst for the NASA Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. She holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree in Management from Argosy University/Sarasota, Florida, a Master of Business Administration degree, and Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from LeTourneau University/Longview. She and her husband, Charles of 43 years, have two children. Charles Booker, son (Class of 1997) and Crystal Booker Clark, daughter (Class of 1998) both are graduates of Westwood High School.
