Early Thursday morning the building housing Westwood Alternative Education Program, Maintenance, and Special Education for the Jr. High School caught fire and burned. We would like to thank the Palestine Fire Department for their quick response and for their efforts to save the structure and equipment inside.

Resources for Parents and Teachers

Westwood ISD is pleased to partner with the Battarbee Insurance Agency to provide two exemplary resources for our school district. Please take a moment to click on these sites and enter the code WESTWOOD to discover an opportunity to help our students in all of their school endeavors! One site, www.edhelpforparents.com is dedicated to helping parents help their children with homework and provides information about learning opportunities outside the classroom. It will be especially helpful to students who are interested in pursuing a college education. The other site, www.educationappreciation.com, offers outstanding resources for teachers and administrators including lesson plans aligned to TEKS/TAKS. We appreciate the generosity of our sponsor, Battarbee Insurance Agency, to make these sites available!

FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a Federal law, requires that Westwood ISD, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child’s education records. However, Westwood ISD may disclose appropriately designated “discretionary information” without written consent, unless you have advised the District to the contrary in accordance with district procedures. You can read more about FERPA and the protection and rights it affords students and their families by clicking on these links: Parents or ELSEC

Thanks for Community Support!

To achieve excellence in any endeavor requires the commitment of involved people working together with a common mission. Several local businesses and churches have contributed to helping our district start this school year in a positive manner by providing refreshments and meals for our staff members, and school supplies for our students. Our success in serving children is enhanced by the support of the following groups: Regions Bank, Chief Financial Services, Brookshire’s, WISD School Board, WISD Primary School, WISD High School, Westwood Baptist Church, Westwood United Methodist Church, Court Drive Church of Christ, and Bike City.
